Event Rules
2023 Tournament Rules and Bracketing:
ALL Divisions
This year’s games will have a 4-game guarantee. All teams will play each other once in the round robin. Points will be as follows: 1 point per period, 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. No points will be awarded for any period that ends in a tie. Max points per game is 5. After all teams have played their 3 round robin games the first and second seed teams will play in the Gold/Silver medal game. The third and fourth seed teams will play for the Bronze medal. This will give all teams 4 total games.
There is no overtime or shootout during round robin play.
If a tie in final standings needs to be broken to determine seeding the following tiebreakers will be used:
- Head-to-Head
- +/- Capped at 5
- Goals against
- Goals for
- Penalty Minutes
If any medal game ends as a tie after regulation, there will be 5-minute sudden death overtime. If still tied there will be a 3-round shootout. If still tied it will go to a sudden death shootout.
Game Rules:
All games will be played under current USA hockey rules. These are the same rules used in every adult league in Florida. Players are not required to wear a cage or shield however a helmet is required. I also request that any team that does not have two different color jerseys make that known before the first game.
1.) All teams will be allowed 1 (30 second) time out each game.
2.) Teams will be allowed a 2-minute warm-up.
3.) Periods will be 12 minutes stop time. At any point the goal difference is 5, run time will start.
4.) Mercy Rule. Any game that reaches a 10 goal difference will end immediately.
5.) Overtime in medal games will be a 5-minute period. Run time for 4 minutes, stop time the final minute. Overtime will be played 4 on 4.
6.) Fighting (dropping the gloves and engaging in fisticuffs) will not be tolerated . If the player is given a major penalty for fighting, he/she will be disqualified for the remainder of this years event and receive a 3 year ban for all future events of First Responder Sports Inc.
7.) Penalties will carry over into overtime. If the game continues into a shootout, only players who have been assessed a misconduct penalty will not participate in the shootout.
We have all played hockey in this tournament before, so any questions please drop me an email or call.
